In 2015 Phil De Gruy, was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, followed almost 2 years later with a metastatic diagnosis. After a lobectomy to remove half of his left lung, he refused treatment. He changed his diet and started training as an endurance athlete. Phil has been cancer free for 7 years.
